10 Tips for a Cozy Weekend | A Rose in Bloom
As the November chills begin to run rampant, I want nothing more than a good book, a nice pot of hot tea, and lots and lots of blankets. Ok, maybe a puppy or two can complete that picture. Oh, and some roasted cauliflower soup. Um... I guess I need a lot of things to be cozy, but to me that is the very essence of a cozy home. This year, I'll be spending more and more time indoors as the drizzle turns to snow, so I've really been thinking up lot of ways to make our home wonderfully cozy. That way, we'll be incredibly happy to have nowhere to go. Here are my favorite tips for a cozy weekend.

Lots of hot drinks. Well, I don't think I need to spell it out, do I? I find that when I am all bundled up and watching the snow fall, a cup of hot coffee or tea can really knock the chill out of your toes. A steaming cup of chai is just comforting when you're watching snowflakes carefully land on your window sill or it's otherwise dreadfully chilling outside.

Make a giant pot of soup. It's embarrassing how much I love soup on a cold day. Whenever I see a day forecast to have a high of 40 Fahrenheit I start planning which soups I am going to make. This is much to my husband's dismay, as he feels that soup is not real food. (Please feel free to tell him how wrong he is in the comments.)

If you need soup inspiration, feel free to check out my Soup Pinterest board. (Did I tell you I love soup?) In particular, I am fans of this recipe and this recipe. Actually, I just love Erica's cooking blog in general. I did tell you guys that I love soup! Plus, it can simmer all day and make your kitchen warm and toasty. :)

Strike a match. If it's too early in the day to start the soup, or you don't mind combative scents, light up some incense or candles. Not only do they give the illusion of warmth, but good smells are always key to a cozy home. If you really want to spice up your whole home and add a little extra warmth try this Simmering Stovetop Potpourri. I plan to give it a try!

Grab a book. It's not a secret that I love to read. On days when it's so cold I can't bear to be outside, I love to grab a book and read for a few hours. This is also part of why I grab far too many library books at all times in the winter. I don't own very many books, so keeping a fresh stack from the library guarantees I always have something to read.

Binge Netflix. Once your eyes are too tired from all that Neil Gaiman, it's time to watch an entire season of 30 Rock. You'll be so busy laughing that you won't be able to help but feel warm and cozy.

Wrap yourself up. Grab a blanket or a fluffy scarf and wrap yourself up! Surely I'm not the only one who wear cozy scarves indoors just because? Please say you do it too. Besides, hats, scarves, and woolly socks help keep your body heat inside of you, where it belongs. Old man winter don't need that mess.

Wear socks and a beanie to stay warm. I kinda gave this one away up there, but it bears repeating. Good socks go a long way to staying cozy. Not only to they help retain body heat, but the softness of a good pair of winter socks had always made me feel a little more innocent about winter - it awakens the little girl in me that loves to watch snowflakes kiss the tip of her nose.

Wear your favorite oversized sweater. Uh duh. You're helping create a cocoon, if you're already following the above tips. Every winter weekend needs a cocoon.

Snuggle with your pets and family. True story: I first started letting my dogs on the couch/bed because my feet would freeze and I wanted to steal their body heat. I'm selfish, but they don't have to know that. They think I just love them a little extra! Add my husband into the mix when he's awake (we have different sleep schedules) and it's a couch party. With 30 Rock. And soup. For me only because he is lame and dogs don't get to eat soup obviously.

Spin a record. This is hypocritical of me because I still haven't finished my own vinyl setup, but the retro vibes you get from records spinning just feels so cozy to me. Like my heart is wrapped in a blanket fresh out of the dryer. Sipping coffee while sitting on the couch in my favorite sweater and socks listening to Bob Dylan on a Saturday morning? Pure heaven.

What is your favorite way to get cozy?
