Water Infusions and Happy Memorial Day!
Monday, May 26, 2014Happy Memorial Day! Normally I would have a Monday quote, but today I was really feeling like I should do something special for this 3 day weekend.
Oh my gosh you guys, it was so hot this weekend. Like, 90s plus. If there is one thing we know about staying healthy in the warmer temperatures, it's that staying hydrated is key. Infusing your water with herbs, vegetables, and fruits is an easy way to stay hydrated. Not only does it feel like a day at the spa, but you are absorbing nutrients from the water as well. I always like to have a pitcher of infused water in case of guests. Recently, I obtained a huge bunch of mint, so I tried many different combinations - all mint related. It was delicious!
Strawberry, Mint, and Lemon Infused Water
What is better in the warmer months that strawberries? Lemon water is a common idea, and combined with the cool, fresh mint, it was heaven. All I did was quarter about 4 strawberries, 2 slices of lemon, and about 10 mint leaves split down the middle. Seal in the jar and refrigerate for at 2-4 hours.
Watermelon Mint Infused Water
Remember when I asked what was better than summer strawberries? The answer is watermelon. I bought watermelon spears from Trader Joe's, cut up one spear into cubes, and again put about 10 mint leaves split down the middle. Seal in the jar and refrigerate for at 2-4 hours.
Old Fashioned Lemon and Mint Water
Yep, this is plain old lemon and mint. 3 slices of lemon, and probably another 10 leaves. While I didn't do it this time, cucumber is also a welcome addition to this beverage. Please note that the brown spots are not bad - it happens when you reuse the same jar 2 days in a row. After 2 days I do recommend getting new leaves.
Do you have a favorite infused water recipe? Or do you have a different method of creatively staying hydrated? Tell me, I would love to know!
