How to Pattern Mix without Looking Like a Clown | A Rose in Bloom
Pattern mixing. It's in right now, but not everyone knows how to do it. For some, it's terrifying. For some, they don't fear it enough.  No one wants to walk out looking they work at a circus, but pattern mixing, when done right, can be fine.

One of the easiest rules is to keep to the same color scheme.  For example, this look is mostly black and white. Because the colors compliment, everything looks in it's place.

Another easy way is to accessorize. See how this girl is using a printed scarf as an accessory? It looks fine because she kept it simple.  The colors match and the patterns are similar enough that it doesn't look too loud.

Keep one print very basic.  Simple stripes with a floral skirt works well here.

Compliment, don't compete. These colors blend together so they don't stick out too much.

Some patterns should be though of as solids.  Houndstooth, small polka dots, checks, and thin stripes can be thought of as solids.

Incorporate some neutrals! She has mixed patterns, but don't notice it at first because the coat is composed of neutrals.
