With the popularity of my summer bucket list and the crisp snap of those first precious October days, I decided I should make the most out of my favorite months of the year. I spent my summer trying to love the heat and thick, wet air (which failed, by the way). This time, I want to spend my fall savoring each moment I already love. I want to freeze that moment when I taste my first, crisp apple fresh from the tree, or savor the smell that arises from applesauce simmering in the slow cooker. I want to learn how to do a few new things, just for the sake of doing them.

Well, it's officially the end of summer and I couldn't be happier. Goodbye bugs, goodbye giant hair, goodbye sweltering heat.

But wait, that's wrong, even though it should be right. Every year I face this wall, somehow believing that with the passing of Labor Day the world should magically turn shades of orange and the air should become clear and crisp. I expect this, though I do not think this has ever happened in my lifetime. If you're like me you are itching to pull out all your fall clothes but sweaters and knee boots are not well suited to 90 degree evenings. The days are playing with my mind, giving me cool morning walks with my dogs and miserable 5:00 pm drives home. Yet, somehow, the days are cloudy so I do not even have the blessed summer sunsets to comfort me and remind me of the cool days ahead (because fall sunsets are equally beautiful). How am I to deal with this? I am simply waiting it out.

Once again, we have reached our first frost before the chills of November have fully come around. I could feel it in my bones Halloween - the leaves curling with droplets begging to become hardened. It makes me feel bittersweet. As much as I love summer activities, winter brings coziness into our lives through thick socks, warm blankets, and steaming tea. As the mad dash home on Friday turned into the freezing rain, I was grateful. For everything.

Crisp autumn air makes paths for adventure, for creativity. Everything is inspiring - the clear skies, the fall drizzles, the crisp leaves, the green leaves still clinging to life. It's like life has become a plethora of sensations, and it makes me want to change up my living space.

Bringing the outdoors in has always been one of my favorite ways to decorate for the seasons. After browsing various DIYs on Pinterest, I finally found the perfect, simple combination: collect fall leaves and string them up. In the past I have always wanted to gather the beautifully red, orange, and yellow leaves, but I never had any idea just what to do with them. This tutorial, however, gave me one of those "Why didn't I think of that?" moments. I did choose to press the leaves under some heavy books for a few days since I didn't have anything to seal them with. It worked just fine!
