Spring is here, so they say, but this morning the bitter winds whipped my nose as we took the dogs out into the green space. I almost don't believe it to be true, but the calendar does say April, so who am I to say winter is still gripping it's claws into 2016? Oh wait, I am a person feeling Old Man Winter's anger, so I am exactly the one to say he is a rather persistent fellow, so despite how springy I feel, I still need a sweater whenever exiting past my own door.

Nonetheless, nature is persevering nicely. Despite the threatens of snowflakes, all the colors of the rainbow are pushing through and making this life a little bit brighter each day.

 

I miss days where I could write and write and it feel like my well of words would never run dry. Lately, my life has been far too exciting to weave the intricate blankets so carefully, so I am afraid I will say adieu for today. Please have a wonderful spring weekend, even if it's snowing. Just find something warm and vibrant and focus your breathing on it for just a minute.

There's a new ring in the family.

Lately, I have been all about being at home. I don't know if it's because we just had to renew our lease or I am getting tired of the cold winds, but I'm all about this cozy apartment just in time to realize that the complex sold and will no longer be allowing all breeds of dogs to live here. We are currently grandfathered in, but I worry how many more years they will tolerate my having two dogs - both over 50 pounds and one an American Pit Bull Terrier. So I have been trying to capture the things I have made lovely about my current home as a keepsake. A memory of this place for when we inevitably have to move, since I will never ever give up these two beautiful lives that stare into my face each day with love in their hearts. However, it's not all bad. I feel like I finally got a great rough draft going so I can't wait to transport these ideas into a new home later this year.... owned or rented.

Earlier in the year, I got to paint the walls a lovely super pale grey that actually looks white and I've been trying to find more ways to embrace this vintage 1930s apartment (which is what I call it to feel better about it being a little run down - it really is a 30s apartment though). I did leave the bedrooms beige, which, because we may be moving again, is a little bit of a relief. Nonetheless, these last 4 years I've been trying to collect little elements to make my space feel more bohemian and full of life, while still keeping with my minimalist tendencies. I have also been trying to keep more fresh flowers around because there is just something delightful about coming home and sorting through your things on a dining table and being greeted by their colorful smiles.

P.S. Did you know that the best way to display your jewelry is to tap straight pins into the wall? Most necklaces, bracelets, and even earrings will dangle in such a beautiful way from them. It's cost efficient, easy, and not distracting. I do like to have a few hooks around for heavier items, hence the vintage anchors, but really, I'll be doing to straight pins again someday when we move. You don't even have to patch the holes. How lovely!

Sometimes, I work on so many writing pieces at once that none of them are finished and ready to go and I feel like I've just wasted so much time. Why can't I have a solid focus? I ask myself this as I hurry a post for my regular Sunday postings. It seems I've been all over the place these days. Truth is, I have at least two outfit posts sitting in my drafts and another 3-5 opinion/writing pieces. I just need a day to reset, to focus my attention and finish. Finish anything actually. Finish editing photos, finish my book of poetry, just finish. It doesn't help that I (finally!) was able to get the 50 mm/1.8 lens for my Nikon so I've been twittering all over the place like a little bird photographing every pretty little thing I see, learning more about aperture and what looks best with what setting. It's both challenging and tear inducing at times. Am I growing as a photographer or am I just a tiny little girl with a big girl camera running around playing grown up? Do I have any business owning this equipment? Have I wasted our money? I never know anymore. What I do know is that I really enjoy playing, whether I'm a little kid trying to fit in with the big ones or I'm an under-confident flower opening it's petals. If you enjoy something, you didn't waste anything, right?
