Roses Bloom Anytime
Thursday, January 1, 2015Hello all,
As you can see, with the exception of my outfit roundup, I have been on a much needed break from my hobbies here and I have returned a new woman. A few weeks ago I accomplished something I had been yearning to complete for the better part of this year - a name change. I just didn't feel like the same girl who used LamentingLizzie as an AOL screen name so many years ago. I have grown, refined, and bloomed into a more authentic, mature person and I knew I needed something to reflect that but it took me oh so long to find a perfect title to reflect who I am today as opposed to yesterday. This also leads to other changes I have been wanting to implement in my life, and I feel like 2015 is the perfect year to start begin the transformation.
You see, for quite some time I have had a burning whisper in my stomach telling me to consume less in life. Waste less. Invest in simplicity. I was already standing with my toes off the cliff, but the commercialization of Christmas gave me a shove from behind and sent me soaring through the air. I won't prance through a tirade, but I will say this: I have been abundantly blessed. I do not need more things and the concept of constantly dragging complications into my life makes me want to rip out of my skin and start a new body. I want a simpler life, savoring experiences and good company. I want to spend more time enjoying wine, hookah, and vinyl over shopping for things I don't need. Go to museums, concerts, and zoos. I want to fill my time with feelings that are wholesome and make me want to be a better person.
This might also mean less posts, but certainly higher quality posts. I have already started transitioning the blog somewhat... because I love so, so much more than fashion. Styles and fashion will always be a passion of mine, but I honestly cannot afford to keep up the way some do. There is nothing wrong with keeping up with trends or buying something new because you feel good, but it's not working for me. I only want to buy what I love, which means yes, sometimes you buy something just because you wants it! However, overall, I want to keep it simple. Take it easy.
Simplicity really is key.
Besides, I have other passions... cooking, photography (I want a new camera in 2015!), music, and reading. In fact, I've been to so many concerts and read so many good books in 2014, that I am almost ashamed I have not shared them with you because to me, experiences are more valuable than anything in the world. ALL good things are meant to be shared, lest they lose their value entirely, so that is what I will do.
P.S. This does not mean outfit posts will disappear! It just means they will be more organic and less concerned with buying into new things. When I stumble upon a beautiful root, I will be sure to share. Besides, saving money from not buying so many clothes = more money in the camera fund. XOXO

| Only if For a Night |
You've all been waiting in suspense for part II, right? Or maybe not. Either way, let's say I was pretty darn proud of some of the things I came up with this year. Next week, or maybe even Friday, I hope to round up my favorite 2014 photos too. A little late never hurt anyone.
Holy smokes you guys, I am realizing I definitely had more fun summer outfits to share than fall/winter, and that makes me sad. I love fall and winter, yet even without snow it has been just so. Dang. Cold. I feel like my fingers are going to break off. Nonetheless though, I am going to be figuring something out soon for these winter styles. I have really wanted to share many cute outfits with you, but it's hard when you go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. Nonetheless, I promise new stuff this week.

What was your favorite style in 2014? Did you let your feminine self fly with lace, or did you keep it real with tomboy ripped jeans and trusty sneakers? I honestly found myself all over the place. Whatever your preferred style, let me know! Cheers to 2015 guys!

| A Very Sunny New Year |
2014 was probably one of the best years of my adult life. Truly, even though we had almost no money and things were really tight, somehow we managed to make the things we love most happen. I learned to be happy with the little things in life and to savor experiences over possessions. A lack of funds definitely didn't affect my wardrobe either - I thrifted a lot, used sales and coupons, and, most importantly, learned to re-create outfits with what I already had. Mixing and matching is my new favorite tool. Think about it: I am so blessed to have pieces that I love to wear. Pieces that make me smile when I get dressed in the morning. In fact, for the time being I have stopped buying clothes altogether... I don't need anything with all these lovely pieces! Have a look at what I was able to create in 2014 using many, many pieces I already owned!
Naturally, I was not able to narrow it down to just one favorite look each month, so there will be a part II. Whatever.

New Year's Eve Self Exploration
Tuesday, December 31, 2013As many of you know, I am a Free People junkie. Even though I cannot afford a lot of stuff (Hello, Macy's clearance section.), I still check their blog on a daily basis. It's full of life and inspiration. When I saw this post by Kristen Hedges, I knew I had to do all of these things for myself.
1. Let go of something. Welp, I totally already did that here. No, I haven't found a replacement cup yet, either. You know what? It still feels great. And sad. Great and sad. What is my life?
3. Do something different, or differently. It does not have to be something big! Even if all you do is go to a different lunch spot, or take a different route to your current favorite spot. Trying new things is a great way to awaken self exploration. I, believe it or not, actually bought a pair of printed leggings. WHAT? I totally never knew they were leggings on the manikin, but when I saw them on Anthropologie's site described as leggings, I nearly had a heart attack. But you know what? If I liked them before, why not now? So I bought them yesterday (25% off all sale made them roughly $30 instead of the original $100. Woot!) and can't wait to show them to you.
4. Write something down. Anything. New cities you explored, that night spent on the trampoline drinking wine with your friends till the sun came up, or even just a new drink you tried. I haven't done this yet, but I want to write down a list of personal accomplishments and goals that I met. Never mind the ones I did not meet; they aren't important right now.
5. Celebrate. Well, come now it's New Year's Eve. Don't be afraid of a new perfume or lipstick, and bring out that tacky dress you can't wear any other time. Embrace it into the folds of your being! I, for one, can't wait to bring out my flapper dress, ok? We are welcoming an entire new season into our lives! Love what has come, and what is yet to come.
